Biography
Svenný is based in Berlin and is a queer musician from Iceland who builds her musical soundscapes with electronic drums, synthesisers, pianos and orchestral instruments, with emotional vocals layered on top. With an eclectic mix of influences ranging from Björk to Billie Eilish, and from Radiohead to Arca, she writes lyrics about love, humanity, nature and the absurd realities of modern life. Her music is born from the contrasting beauty of living around the breathtaking nature of Iceland and the raw humanity of Berlin.
Svenný has been singing and playing piano since she was a child. She studied classical piano for ten years, was in choirs throughout her childhood and took part in many musical theatre productions. She is finishing her Bachelors degree from BIMM Berlin in spring 2024 where she studies songwriting with a focus on music production and scoring for media. Her song “In This Room” was picked by veteran producers Fabio Buemi and Pete Smith to be recorded and featured on the BIMM Berlin album in 2022. This was then followed by a music video made with students from the film faculty at BIMM, shot in Iceland and in a film studio in Berlin. In 2023 Svenný played at a fundraiser concert for TransInterQueer, a charity working with the trans community in Berlin, which she also organised with her fellow students.
Svenný is now working on her first EP, slated to release in the summer of 2024 with live shows in Berlin and Iceland following suit.
